Can’t decide on a good London engagement shoot location? I think an engagement shoot is a fantastic way to get to know the couple and capture some meaningful portraits ahead of the big day. This quick guide shares my ideas on London locations that are great for engagement shoots.
London is full of places for engagement photography that capture different personalities and personal stories – from old to new, from industrial to chic to natural. Here are a few of my favourite locations.
01. The Classic London Shoot
A classic choice is the City of London. Full of clean and elegant, historical buildings, the city offers great backdrops for stylish couples. P+J chose a perfect summer evening for their shoot in the city. After meeting near Bank for some crisp, cream backdrops, we had fun walking the narrow old streets near Monument. Finally, we found the most amazing golden light in front of Old Billingsgate Market by the river.
02. The Creative Location Shoot
Spitalfields and Shoreditch provide a great alternative city environment for those who want to celebrate the colour and joy of their relationship. There are lots of interesting painted houses and doors as well as all of the local graffiti art as backdrops. As a photographer, I find lots of opportunities to capture unusual and fun shots in this area. In the evening, this area comes to life and the twinkling lights can add some romance to your couple shoot.
03. The Natural Engagement Shoot
The first thing that many people think about in London are the historic locations and man-made structures. But it’s a much greener city than you think.
For your engagement shoot, you capture memories of a particular park or just enjoy a beautiful summer evening among the trees and flowers. Regent’s Park in June has the most stunning roses – the flower of love – and can be a great relaxed spot. (Some of the parks require a photography licence that has an additional cost)
04. The New London Location Shoot
If you’re looking for a London engagement shoot location, you might be thinking of iconic city skylines. This shoot with G+B took place in the docklands area near London City Airport. Unlike the central areas, the promenade was quiet and uncluttered. This let me capture a fantastic series of couple portraits that really focussed on these wonderful and unique people.
05. The London Beach Engagement Shoot!
The last thing you would associate with London is beaches, but there are lots of options for a great inner city beach engagement shoot. I love the beaches near Wapping with the skyline of Canary Wharf in the background. There are interesting old pier features and steps that couples can use to create a wide variety of personal pictures.
